New Release The 2005 Killerby Shiraz
is the latest release in a long line of Shiraz wines from
Killerby. Its predecessors have an illustrious history:
2004 Shiraz: "Best in Category" World's
Greatest Shiraz Challenge II. Vineyard Notes: The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Geographe Vineyard, which was planted in 1973. Due to the maturity of the Shiraz vines we are able to harvest intensely flavoured fruit from these low yielding vines. |

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2004 Shiraz: Selected as
Best in Category in the
“World’s Greatest Shiraz Challenge II” in
Winestate magazine.
Winners in other categories were Penfold’s Grange, Wild Duck Creek Duck Muck and Henschke Hill of Grace. Great wines indeed

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2002 Shiraz: “Medium-bodied; savoury, slightly leafy/spicy notes around a core of balanced plum and cherry fruit core; fine tannins. Drink 2010." James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2007.
2002 Shiraz: “92/100” tysonstelzer.com------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2001 Shiraz: “This is stunning. Plonk your snoz into the glass and you get the first hint that this is seriously good. The first taste confirms it.Old,
low-yielding vines and 15 months in a mix of quality new and
one-year-old American Oak has produced a complex wine of
suppleness and finesse.
The
lush, sumptuous gorgeous palate oozes the very best of
shiraz. A
beauty. 93/100.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2001 Shiraz: “Here we have a worthy successor to the very good 2000 and 1999 vintages.
Aromas of ripe blackberry and spicy, smoky oak are inviting
on the nose. The palate follows suit and does so combining
elegance of structure with depth of flavour. It drinks well
in its youth but deserves a few years to develop more
complexity.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2001 Shiraz: "I enjoy reviewing mature wine that is commercially available as it shows to the consumer what potential a grape variety has to age and develop. Deep crimson to opulent purple in colour. Berry driven with dominant blackberry and blackcurrants on the nose with stewed fruit aromas. Restrained bouquet exhibiting smokey characters with hints of liquorice. A gloriously smooth wine. Powerfully mouth fillling, yet still elegant in structure. Complexity with layers of fruit flavour supported by well integrated American oak providing in turn fine soft oak tannins. Full bodied and rich - seamless drinking. Extended lingering finish. Is maturing perfectly with at the very least, 5-7 years ahead of it. Drink with medium rare New York cut steak with honey roasted sweet potato or lamb shanks sautéed in vermouth with a roasted tomato sauce. At about $24, outstanding value." Paul Ippolito Talks Wine February 2005 Edition. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2001 Shiraz: “Ripe
aromas of plums, blackcurrants and blueberries with sweet,
slightly varnishy vanilla/mocha oak precede a juicy palate
of intensity and polish. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2001 Shiraz:
“This
has deep, rich, plum, redcurrant and blackberry fruit made
complex by some earthy flavours, with a smooth texture and a
pleasingly firm grip to finish.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the things we have noted in particular—and appreciate—is the Australians’ aggressive move up the quality ladder. Like the affordable varietals that preceded them, Australia’s newer crop of higher-quality, more costly wines still feature excellent price-to-quality rapport. Yes, it’s true: Penfolds Grange remains the acknowledged benchmark for Australian excellence. But this classic Shiraz has now been joined by a veritable flock of high-quality wines from the likes of Henschke, Hardys and Rosemount —and also from relative newcomers such as Clarendon Hills, Mitchelton, Kay Bros. and Killerby. Wine Enthusiast magazine (USA) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another red-hot red these days is Shiraz, the Australians’ ripe, jammy, spicy rendition of the Rhone grape Syrah. Penfolds’ Grange is the most revered and Rosemount the best known, but fine wine merchants are now stocking up on boutiques that deliver both quality and cachet. Elderton, Killerby, and Grant Burge are just a few of many estates that excel at Shiraz under $40. The hunt may be harder for Hardy’s Eileen Hardy bottling, d’Arenberg’s The Dead Arm, or the cult hit Astralis, made by Clarendon Hills. W. R. Tish, former editor of magazine ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
