Colour: Pale straw with a tinge of green. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2004 Semillon: “A complex wine... Partially French oak barrel-fermented and aged for six months, part stainless steel; every possibility it will cellar well. Rating: 89/100, drink: 2010.” James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2007.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2004 Semillon:
"90/100 - One of the Best Australian Wines Under
$20. Complex, almost pungent aromas of green melon,
honeysuckle and dried flowers overlie creamy, pastry-like leesy nuances, with a touch of funkiness. Its long, supple
palate of delicate and charming melon-like fruit and
refreshing lemony acidity is tightly knit with dusty vanilla
oak, finishing smooth and savoury." Jeremy Oliver,
The Australian Wine Annual 2006, p.9. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2004 Semillon:
"This Western
Australian winery delivers constant quality and value
through its wines. Semillon is one of those grape varietals
that is hard to market to the consumer as it is not as fruit
driven as Chardonnay and is quite acidic in its early
drinking phase. This one has been given the works with
maturation through French oak. It is now drinking very well
with glorious complex aromas of herbaceousness, citrine,
spicy nutmeg and lanolin characters. The wine delivers a
long lingering aftertaste of lemon on the palate. Have with
chicken schnitzel. At around $20, very good value." Paul
Ippolito, Sydney, February 2006. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2003 Semillon: "This
is a wonderful expression of WA semillon. It hasn't received
any oak and relies on an incredible intensity and depth of
powerful fruit. Piercing lingering acid sustains an
excellent wine. Worth cellaring for at least five years.
90/100." Ray
Jordan, Guide to Western Australian Wine 2004/05. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2003 Semillon:“...it’s
long, mineral and savoury, even meaty, creating an assertive
presence in the mouth punctuated by taut, clean acidity. It
should settle into a complex food style. 90/100.”
Jeremy
Oliver OnWine July 2004. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “...We
take the waiter's recommendation from an extensive wine list
and finding that a Killerby semillon matches the flavours of
most of the dishes.”
David
Dale, “Waiter Knows Best” Sydney Morning Herald,
30th Aug 2003. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “For
me, two wines have always stood out—the Semillon and the
Shiraz. Both of these wines are consistently amongst the
finest released.” Ray
Jordan, Wine-Western
Australia’s Best p.47. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Western Australia produces about 4% of Australian wine by volume, but about 25% of the premium wine. As with all wine growing countries, the good stuff is kept at home, so it is almost impossible to find Western Australian wine abroad. You stand as much chance finding Killerby Semillon outside Western Australia as you do finding Chateau Ferrand outside France, or Niebaum Coppola beyond the Napa Valley." www.BBC.co.uk ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
