CELLAR SELECTION SHIRAZ

Cellar Selection wines are small runs of wine that are unique, distinct or different enough to warrant being bottled separately. In this case, the winemaker took several barrels that showed a freshness and suppleness that was different to all the other barrels of 2006 Shiraz. These few barrels were taken out early and bottled under this label.

Cellar Selection wines are not sold in shops or restaurants and are only available from the winery itself.

The 2006 Cellar Selection Shiraz is from 35 year old vines in our Dr Killerby’s original vineyard. These old vines produce fruit of exceptional intensity. The wine was matured in one-year old American oak barrels for 16 months and was bottled in February 2008.

The colour of the wine is a deep, crimson red. On the nose, it opens with lovely fresh and lifted spicy plum fruit aromas. The wine also has earthy, vanillin oak and cedar characters that complement these aromas.

The palate is soft and supple. It displays a lively mix of blackberry, dark fruits and earthiness. Oak maturation has given this wine some lovely chocolate, mocha flavours. The soft, supple tannin profile gives this wine a lovely mouth coating flavour persistence.

Drink this wine now or cellar with confidence for three to five years to obtain more bottle-aged complexity.
